Oakland’s ALPR Policy
Oakland Police Department states that ALPRs are used to enhance public safety by capturing and storing digital license plate data and images. The technology compares license plate characters against hotlists and stores the date, time, and location of the photo in order to identify stolen vehicles or vehicles involved with crime. Authorized users, such as police service technicians or sworn personnel must verify responses through the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System before taking action with an identified vehicle.
