Background
South San Francisco ALPR Policy
The South San Francisco Police Department states that ALPRs’ authorized use cases are to prevent crime, locate vehicles involved in crime, locate missing persons, and locate people involved in crime. SSFPD members should not be able to access ALPR data for any other use other than authorized use cases. In order to contact an individual involved in an ALPR alert, there must be a valid reason of contact, and license plate numbers must be verified.

- Data is encrypted and stored by Flock Safety following Criminal Justice Information System security protocols
- Only trained officers with a legitimate need can access ALPR data
- Physical access to ALPR systems is restricted to personnel with proper credentials
- Audit logs for searches are tracked
- Data is not used for immigration enforcement
- Facial recognition software is not integrated
