Sunnyvale ALPR Policy
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety states that ALPRs are used for identifying stolen or wanted vehicles, stolen license plates, missing persons, and for other investigations. Officers must verify ALPR responses through the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System before taking enforcement action.
Policy Stated by Sunnyvale
- Data is encrypted and stored by Flock Safety following Criminal Justice Information System security protocols
- Only trained officers with a legitimate need can access ALPR data
- Audit logs for searches are tracked
- Prohibited uses: immigration enforcement, harassment, personal use
- Facial recognition software is not used
